Oh the rumor mill has starting churning again. The newest piece of juicy gossip that it has spit out you wonder? Stefano Pilati may just be headed to a new job, taking the reigns over as the womenswear designer at Giorgio Armani. If you’re as big of a fan of Pilati as we are, this information will make you grin ear to ear. While there has been no official announcement, or even a hint of a departure from company founder and current designer Giorgio Armani, the speculations have still been flying. Pilati, who after his departure from Yves Saint Laurent in 2012, most recently worked for knitwear company Angona, recently stepped down from the position so he is free to “pursue other women’s ready-to-wear projects”.
Pilati is most well known for the years at the helm of the Parisian brand Yves Saint Laurent, where he was the lead designer from 2004 to 2012. During his years there, he gained international fame, creating many iconic statement pieces and accessories, and gained a large fan base, including top models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, both of whom consider Pilati a close friend. His designs for the house were often compared to Armani’s label, with even Armani himself stating that “Pilati’s already doing Armani”. What an easy transition would that be then? Certainly someone as talented as Pilati could handle the pressure of taking over such a large and iconic Italian brand. But for now, all we can do is hold our breath and wait for news to break.
